What is a wheel alignment?
A wheel alignment or tire alignment is an adjustment of your vehicle’s suspension system. The suspension system is what connects your vehicle to the wheels. Our ASE Certified Mechanics will reset your vehicle’s suspension so that your wheels and tires are set at the proper angles to make contact with the road.
What causes a bad alignment?
There are a number of things that can cause your alignment to go bad. Commonly, a sudden jarring or hard impact, like hitting a pothole or curb, or a minor accident, will knock your wheels out of alignment.
In addition, the normal wear and tear on various parts and components can affect the alignment. As your vehicle’s shocks and struts start to wear out, it can cause a slack in steering and a shift on your alignment.
Finally, if you modify the height of your vehicle through lifting, you need to adjust the suspension system or you risk alignment problems.
Signs your alignment is off
- Your vehicle pulls to the left or right
- Uneven tread wear toward the edge of your tires
- Vibration in the steering wheel
- Your steering wheel is off-center
- Your vehicle wobbles or shakes above a certain speed
Why alignment is important
If your wheels are out of alignment, your vehicle’s handling capabilities will be dramatically reduced. Your ability to turn the car in either direction will be inhibited. And driving in a straight line will be impaired as your vehicle pulls to one side or the other.
As we mentioned above, uneven wear on your tires affects your vehicle’s ability to stop, especially in inclement weather. This uneven wear may also reduce the lifespan of your tires. Replacing your tires is much more expensive than maintaining a proper alignment.
At Auto Repair Pros, our ASE Certified Mechanics use top of the line alignment machines to make sure your vehicle meets the exact alignment specifications set by the manufacturer. And with our lifetime alignment guarantee, we’ll always make sure your vehicle is in optimal condition and ready to hit the road.
What is an ASE Certified Mechanic?
We have mentioned several times that Auto Repair Pros employs ASE Certified Mechanics. So, what does that mean? ASE is short for the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, an independent non-profit organization formed in 1972 with the mission of improving the quality of vehicle repair and service.
In order to become ASE certified, our associates must pass an ASE certification test and have at least two years of on-the-job training, or one year of on-the-job training and a two-year degree in automotive repair to qualify for certification.
Because automotive technology is advancing at a rapid pace, our ASE Certified Mechanics must keep up their education and retest every five years.
